By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1) The Service

The Service enables users to collaboratively annotate bee imagery and related metadata, and may provide machine learning (“ML”) outputs such as predictions, rankings, or summaries. The Service is experimental and may change over time.

We may add, modify, or remove features at any time.

2) Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you must have permission from a parent/guardian.

You are responsible for your account credentials and for all activity under your account.

3) Acceptable use

Do not misuse the Service, including probing, scanning, or testing vulnerabilities.

Do not interfere with or disrupt the Service (including rate-limit bypass, denial-of-service, or scraping beyond permitted limits).

Do not attempt to access other users’ data without permission.

Do not upload malware or harmful content.

Do not use the Service to infringe intellectual property rights or privacy rights.

Do not use the Service for unlawful, abusive, or deceptive purposes.

We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations.

4) Content in the Service

4.1 Our content

We (or our licensors) own the Service and all associated software, text, branding, and design, excluding user Contributions (defined below). We also own or control the footage and imagery we provide through the Service unless stated otherwise.

4.2 Your contributions (annotations, feedback, etc.)

“Contributions” include any annotations, labels, bounding boxes, segmentation masks, classifications, ratings, comments, corrections, metadata, and feedback you submit to the Service.

As between you and us, you retain any rights you may have in your Contributions.

License you grant to us (critical)

You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable (to the extent permitted by law), transferable, and sublicensable license to:

use, host, store, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, and create derivative works from your Contributions;

distribute, publish, publicly display, and otherwise make your Contributions available;

combine your Contributions with other data and content;

use your Contributions to train, evaluate, validate, and improve ML models, and to create and publish datasets and model outputs (including model weights); and

sublicense your Contributions under open licenses (including, for example, CC BY 4.0 and potentially more permissive licenses such as CC0 in future releases).

This license is necessary for operating a collaborative annotation system and for releasing open datasets/models without having to obtain individual re-permissions later.

4.3 Uploads (not currently enabled, but if enabled later)

The Service may later allow users to upload images/videos or other materials (“Uploads”).

If you Upload content, you represent and warrant that:

you own or have all necessary rights and permissions to Upload it;

it does not infringe others’ rights (including copyright, privacy, or confidentiality); and

it does not contain personal data of identifiable individuals without lawful basis and consent, where required.

If Uploads are enabled, you grant us a license to host, display, and process your Uploads to operate the Service. If we offer a separate toggle or setting to include Uploads in a public dataset, your selection will determine whether your Uploads are included in public releases.

5) Public dataset and model releases

We may publish datasets and/or ML models derived from the Service. Unless stated otherwise on a release page, we currently intend to release dataset versions under CC BY 4.0.

Note: Past releases remain available under the license they were released under. Future releases may be offered under additional or different open licenses.

6) Attribution and citation

If you use a dataset or model we publish, you must comply with the license terms applicable to that release (for example, attribution requirements under CC BY 4.0). See the dataset release page for the preferred citation.

7) Feedback

If you provide feedback about the Service (including feature requests), you agree we can use it without restriction or compensation.

8) Disclaimers

The Service and any outputs (including annotations and ML results) are provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that outputs are accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.

The Service is not veterinary, medical, or professional advice.

9) Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, damage, or claim arising from your use of the Service, including any indirect, special, consequential, or economic loss, loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of opportunity.

Where applicable law implies guarantees or rights that cannot be excluded, our liability is limited (at our option) to resupplying the services or paying the cost of having the services supplied again, to the extent permitted by law.

10) Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:

your breach of these Terms;

your Contributions or Uploads; or

your misuse of the Service.

11) Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, including for violations.

Termination does not affect the licenses you granted to us for Contributions already submitted.

12) Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post an updated version with a new last updated date.

Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
